The coconut is the fruit of the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera) and botanically belongs to the drupe family. It has a hard, fibrous shell under which the white, aromatic flesh and nutrient-rich coconut water are found. The coconut is a versatile natural product and is used worldwide for food, drinks, cosmetics and even building materials. Its oil is used as an ingredient in cooking and skin care, while dried coconut meat (copra) is processed to produce oil. In tropical regions in particular, it plays an important role in nutrition and the economy.
F1 Hybrid
Not frost resistant
The coconut palm thrives best in tropical climates with high temperatures, plenty of sunlight and well-drained, sandy soil. It requires high humidity and regular watering, but does not tolerate waterlogging. Germination takes place from the whole nut, which is half buried in the soil. A sheltered location with sufficient space for root growth is ideal. As coconut palms are salt-tolerant, they grow well near the coast. Regular fertilization with potassium and magnesium promotes growth and fruit formation.
