Black-eyed Susanne belongs to the acanthus family (Acanthaceae). It is a counterclockwise twining annual herbaceous climber and grows up to 2 m tall. The fine flowers are yellow, orange, red, white and multicolored.
Origin:
Southeast Africa
It is best to propagate in advance, otherwise flowering will be late. Germination after 2-3 weeks at 18°C. Soaking in chamomile tea for approx. 5 hours should promote germination. Sensitive to frost. Sheltered from the wind. Also good in partial shade. Cut back by 1/3 3 weeks after planting. If it is not cultivated as a hanging plant, it needs a climbing support. Also good as a privacy screen, then place several plants next to each other. Can be propagated by seed or cuttings.
