Description

Large, silky 12 cm flowers burst into colorful blooms above clusters of deep green foliage. This outstanding mix of fiery red, bright pink, vibrant orange, and rare plum hues will truly bring your garden to life. A long-lasting perennial, it is ideal for borders or as a cut flower. Sowing: Sow 6-8 weeks before the last frost, on the surface of moist, well-drained seed compost. Do not cover the seeds. Place in a room greenhouse or seal the seed trays in a plastic bag at a temperature of 15°C until germination, which usually takes 10-21 days. A bright location promotes germination. Transplanting: When the seedlings are large enough, transplant them into 8 cm pots. Slowly acclimatize them to outdoor temperatures and transplant them at a distance of 30 cm. Care: Poppies prefer full sun and high-nitrogen, well-drained soil with a neutral pH value. Removing the faded flower heads promotes further flower production and prevents seeding. Culinary note: All poppies are poisonous. However, the seeds produced by Papaver somniferum and Papaver paeoniflorum are edible and are used to add flavor, crunch, and texture to breads and cakes. The seeds of other poppy species are not edible.
