Pruning promotes new shoots. Also known as curly mallow, whorled mallow (because the small flowers are arranged in whorls on the stems) or Chinese mallow. Popular in China and throughout Asia as a leafy vegetable. Still relatively unknown here, but very worthwhile. Young leaves and flower buds taste good in salads, older leaves can be steamed and used as a salad. Sow in situ from mid-April, pre-cultivation in a protected environment from March. Dark germinator, sowing depth approx. 3 mm, germination temperature around 20 degrees. Completely undemanding plant, grows on almost all soils and in all locations. Soil should only be well-drained so that the long taproot can develop and provide the plant with nutrients. (Source: Seed description on eBay)
