Cucumber belongs to the cucurbit family. It grows as an annual and is very sensitive to cold. Various varieties differ in shape, color and skin texture, as well as the height of growth. The cucumber grows climbing and is therefore happy to have a climbing aid. It also grows without, but then needs more space.

Since cucumbers are quite sensitive to cold, you should not plant them out until after the Ice Saints. They also have a high heat requirement during growth, and a steady water supply is also necessary. Stress conditions such as temperature fluctuations, lack of water, or frequent touching will cause bitter compounds to form. You should observe a cultivation period of 3-4 years. Salad cucumbers must be able to hold on, as they form long tendrils (2-4 m). Regular harvesting increases the yield, as more new flowers are formed.
