There are 245 species in the genus clover, which belongs to the legume family (Fabaceae). Clover is used for soil improvement (green manure) because it fixes nitrogen from the air in the soil, or as animal feed because of its high protein content, and can also be eaten by humans. Clover also provides nectar for insects. It is often hardy and perennial and can also be sown as a lawn substitute. Red clover is also used as a remedy.

It is best to mix the seeds with a little growing soil and then apply them to the growing area. Rake in broadly, shallowly and keep well moist. Drought and heat can cause problems for clover. It does not like waterlogging and thrives less well on loamy and acidic soils. Depending on the type of clover, there may be differences in cultivation requirements. Clover also sows itself or via vegetative runners. You need approx. 30 g of seed per square meter.
