Zinnias are a group of splendidly colorful flowering summer flower species. They all belong to the composite family (Asteraceae). They bloom for many weeks in the summer and are therefore super suitable as a splash of color to fill gaps between rows of vegetables or to beautify the edge of a vegetable patch.
Herkunft:
Zinnias originate from the south of the USA and Central America.
Zinnias need plenty of sun. They also like well-drained, rather poor and dry soil. As they originate from the semi-deserts of South America, they cope well with drought, but not with waterlogging. Apart from that, they do not make any special demands on the nutrient content of the soil. The flowers can be pre-grown from February and transplanted into the bed from the end of May. To ensure long-lasting flowering, the faded inflorescences should be removed regularly.
