Description

Aji Cito is one of the hottest Capsicum baccatum varieties, at 100,000 SHU the hottest tree chili ever measured by the Chili Pepper Institute at New Mexico State University. Plants grow over three feet tall and are spreading. The yellow chilies are about 5 inches long, very aromatic with a hint of lemon. They are perfect for hot sauces, chutney and chili pastes, but are also suitable for drying and pickling. By the way: Aji is the general name for chilies in South America.

Growing tips

The germination temperature is between 22 and 28°C (8 - 21 days germination period), therefore the use of a greenhouse and a heating mat is recommended. The plants need fresh, well-fertilized, well-drained soil and do not tolerate waterlogging. They should be placed in a full sun, sheltered spot with at least 6 hours of sunlight, preferably more. Place the plants outside approx. 2 to 3 weeks after the last frost. As the plants have quite a long ripening period, you should cultivate them in a pot so that you can bring the plants indoors when the temperature drops below 12°C during the day so that all the fruits can ripen. For overwintering, cut back by 20 cm after harvesting and place in a bright spot at a temperature of at least 15°C.
