Growing tips

Strawberry varieties grown outdoors do not require any special protection during the winter. However, strawberries grown in containers must be provided with winter protection in good time and moved to a sheltered place. In the event of permafrost, bring them indoors for safety. The plants should be cut back in the fall. A layer of straw should be added to the soil at the beginning of May. This protects garden strawberries from moisture and infestation by gray mold. As soon as the strawberries have been harvested, the straw can be removed. The strawberries are then fertilized. The plants should be planted deep enough so that the heart of the plants remains above the soil surface.
