Variety for sprout harvest from December to March (root harvest from mid-September). To sprout without cover crop. Forms heavy, firm, white-yellow shoots at low temperatures. Specialty with a delicate flavor. In summer (before sprouting), chicory continuously provides fresh lettuce leaves with bitter notes.
Non hybrid
Sprinkle the seeds lightly with soil and press down, as they are light germinators. Spread out later to a distance of 10 cm. Prefers good, loose, deep (taproot), low-nitrogen garden soil in a sunny position and sufficient water. Harvest beets from mid-September with an optimum beet diameter of 3-5 cm, remove leaves, leave only the heart (2 cm). Stack the roots for storage (min. 1 week resting phase) in a cool room and protect from drying out. Then place them close together upright in a bucket with a little moist soil and cover with another bucket, e.g. in a dark place. At 12 to 18° C, chicory heads can be harvested several times after 3-5 weeks (and in the case of staggered forcing until February/March).
