With a fruit weight of approx. 1 to 1.5 kg, the "Zora" variety is an F1 hybrid mini Hokkaido that impresses with its short tendrils (approx. 1 m) and compact growth. Finally a variety that is recommended for growing in containers. As a Hokkaido pumpkin, "Zora" scores with its excellent and aromatic flesh, and with 2-3 fruits per plant or pot, nothing stands in the way of growing it on balconies and terraces.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
Optimum germination temperature at a constant 16 - 22°C. Germination time approx. 6 - 12 days. Plant 1 seed 2 - 3 cm deep (dark germinator) per pot or planting site. Keep constantly moist. Plant out from the end of May in a container at least 30 cm in diameter, harden off young plants beforehand (keep protected for 3-4 days, place in the house/window at night). The location should be sunny, the soil nutrient-rich, mature compost is ideal, alternatively pre-fertilized vegetable soil. A nearby watering place/rain barrel is an advantage. 1 plant per container/ in the garden bed planting distance 100x100 cm. We recommend pre-growing seedlings. An even supply of water and nutrients is important for healthy growth and abundant fruiting. In the event of drought or lack of fertilization, the small pumpkins will partially die. At temperatures below 5°C, you should cover the entire plant with fleece. The fleece should be removed as soon as flowers form. Place a small wooden board, a flat stone or straw under the fruit to prevent the fruit from rotting on wet soil. You can harvest as soon as the pumpkin sounds hollow when you "tap" it. To harvest, cut the pumpkin at the stem, but leave part of the stem attached to the fruit. Otherwise the pumpkins will rot quickly and cannot be stored for as long.
