Description

The horned cucumber or horned melon (Cucumis metuliferus) is a species of plant in the gourd family (Cucurbitaceae). Its fruits are known in Europe under the trade name Kiwano. Horned cucumber is an annual climber that spreads about 3 meters. The stems are stiff-haired and ribbed.

Growing tips

Sow from March to April in small pots at 22 - 25° C, plant out after 4 weeks in a hobby greenhouse. The plant must be tied up. The female flowers, which are easy to recognize as they already have a lower ovary, should preferably be pollinated by hand.
