Sage tastes intensely spicy and slightly bitter. It is considered anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antispasmodic, antiperspirant, slightly antihypertensive and blood purifying. Perennial. The leaves are also suitable dried as a tea. Insect friendly.

Light germinator. Germination after 14-25 days at 18-24°C. If sown early from April, protect with fleece if necessary. If pre-grown, harden off before planting out (from May). Prune in late fall or spring. Loamy and calcareous soil and a sheltered location are advantageous. Harvest before flowering. Only the shoot tips in the 1st year. Protect from heavy frost in winter if necessary. Sensitive to waterlogging. Harvest from August in the 1st year.
