Description

This wild cabbage species is probably the original form of many of today's vegetable cabbage varieties. It grows on rocks and coastal cliffs of the Atlantic. In Germany, the plant is found on Heligoland ("Klippenkohl"). In its natural habitat on stony, In its natural habitat on stony, nutrient-poor soil, wild cabbage grows very slowly, but in good garden soil it quickly develops into a stately perennial. It can be grown as a hardy vegetable in the garden and tastes very aromatic. Sowing in early April in the open or better preculture and planting out from mid-May. Cover seeds with about 5 mm of soil and keep moist. The distance between plants should be about 40 cm. Can be harvested all year round from the second year, or from the third year if sown late.
