Striato d'Italia forms cylindrical fruits about 25 cm long, green marbled with slightly light accentuated stripes. Firm whitish flesh. Vigorous, book-shaped growth.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
Germination period: 7-14 days at 17-25°C soil temperature. After germination, place in a light place. Harden off before planting out. Zucchinis prefer nutrient-rich, humus-rich, warm soil in a sunny, sheltered position. Keep the soil constantly moist. Sensitive to frost. Several plants can pollinate each other. Harvest regularly so that new fruits continue to form. Fertilize and water regularly. Observe crop rotation. Home-grown zucchini seeds are strongly discouraged because they can produce the toxic bitter substance cucurbitacin. Mixed cultivation with borage promotes pollination. Pumpkins and zucchinis of the same species can cross-pollinate, making zucchinis bitter and inedible or poisonous (due to so-called curcurbitacins).
