Description

Spaghetti bean Tapir Vigna unguiculata Origin: The bean originally comes from Mexico (7000 or 8000 years ago) and is now one of the most important crops in the world. Interesting facts: The climbing plant, which can grow up to 3 m high, with its pretty butterfly flowers and later very slender, delicate, approx. 70 cm long, green pods and reddish-brown seeds, should be harvested continuously when young. The "spaghetti bean" is very productive, the pod grows back quickly after picking (up to 4 harvests possible). This extremely tasty bean can be used in many different ways in the kitchen. Cultivation: Direct sowing in the garden from March (after the frost period). A distance of 100 x 80 cm between the stalks should be maintained. Sowing depth 2-3 cm. When sowing or planting, the soil temperature should be at least 10 degrees Celsius. On the balcony, you should use medium-sized flower pots with sandy-loamy soil. Add half a thimbleful of mineral fertilizer per pot. Germination after approx. one week, at a temperature of 14 to 25°C. Climbing sticks are essential. Location / light: Choose a sunny to semi-shady spot. Loose, well-drained, moist soil is ideal. Care: Water moderately during the germination period. Keep the soil moist, but avoid waterlogging. Fertilize every 14 days from June to September. Protect the plant from snails for the first few weeks. The runner bean is a very robust plant and almost immune to plant diseases. Overwintering: The "spaghetti bean" is an annual plant
