Basil Dark Opal has very unusual, large (up to 9cm long), shiny and very tasty leaves. The leaves of this basil are dark purple-green in color. Pink flowers. Slightly more delicate than the Genovese, but similar slightly spicier taste, with a good combination of pepper, aniseed and cloves. This basil variety is also very attractive in the flower garden. The plants grow compactly and reach a height of approx. 40 cm. Sometimes also equated with the 'Black Opal' variety.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
When sowing, press the seeds down well, do not cover with soil (light germinator!). From April, it can be sown in seed trays and kept at a temperature of around 20°C. During the germination phase and in the first few weeks after germination, the soil should only be watered moderately to avoid fungal infections. Covering the sowing trays with cling film provides taut air and improves the growing conditions. Keep the plants moist at all times and water moderately. The indoor location should be as bright as possible. Harvest outdoors from July until frost. Do not cut the plants off completely so that they can continue to grow.
