Description

Mrs. Burns' Lemon Basil is a legendary heirloom that has been grown since the 1920s. The variety was then owned by Mrs. Clifton of Carlsbad, New Mexico. She passed the seeds on to organic gardener Janet Burns, who introduced the citrusy, aromatic herb to the world in 1939. Its intense lemon flavor made it an instant hit with chefs and gardeners alike! The lemon-scented, bright green leaves can be used in cooking, eaten raw and even used in baking. Fun fact: Mrs. Burns' lemon basil (AKA Ocimum basilicum var. citriodora) is not actually a variety of lemon basil, but a type of sweet basil. And an absolutely unique case.

Not frost resistant

Growing tips

To get a beautiful, bushy plant with lots of lemon-scented leaves, prune this basil early and often by cutting off the upper part of the leaves. Also cut off the flowers to prevent the leaves from becoming bitter.
