Description

Metre bean Metro Austrosaat Gourmet Edition Meter Bean Metro (Vigna unguiculata ssp. sesquipdalis) grows up to one meter long in its native habitat. In the Central European climate area, 40-60 cm long beans can be expected. Preparation is the same as for other beans. Direct sowing: On finely prepared bed, about 3 m long stalks are inserted into the soil at a distance of 100 x 50 cm. Approximately 20 cm away in a circle around the sticks are sown 6-7 grains each about 1-2 cm deep.

Non hybrid

Not frost resistant

Growing tips

Asparagus beans require even day and night temperatures, which should not fall below 16° C, i.e. a sunny, warm and sheltered place or an airy (but draught-protected) greenhouse. Sow directly into the open ground at the end of May to the beginning of June (advance sowing is also possible from mid-April), from a soil temperature of 16° C (germination temperature 14-22° C); germination time: approx. 1 week in warm weather. Mounding is recommended; fertilize every 14 days between June and September (no fresh manure!), water in dry weather (especially during harvest). Harvest after approx. 60-90 days (from the end of July/beginning of August), continuously young (when the pods are still smooth). Tender beans and repeated harvests are the result.
