Description

The Alicante tomato is a recommended variety for beginners to grow tomatoes. The early-ripening, popular variety has almost no green collar and is also relatively robust and tolerant of tomato diseases. The plants, which grow up to 2 meters tall, develop numerous red, round, medium-sized fruits that have a very intense tomato aroma with a balanced sweetness-acid ratio. They are just as suitable for fresh consumption as they are for preserving.

Growing tips

Alicante tomatoes can be grown indoors, in a greenhouse or outdoors. The optimum germination temperature is between 20 and 25°C and germination takes place after 8 - 14 days. To speed up germination, pre-soak the seeds overnight in a damp cloth. Only plant out the pre-germinated plants after the last frost. Tomatoes need fresh, well-fertilized, well-drained soil that is kept moist (but not wet!). They should be planted in a sunny, sheltered spot with at least 6 hours of sunlight, preferably more.
