Description

Net cucumber "de Sikkim" is an old variety from northern India with intense cucumber flavor. The cucumbers are characterized by the fact that they have a brownish coloring with light cracks. The net cucumbers are considered to be rich-bearing and very robust. Diseases and pests are hardly observed on them. Especially for allotment gardeners and self-suppliers net cucumbers have very interesting properties. When harvested young, they are used as pickling cucumbers. When they are bigger, they can be used for salads (fresh consumption), and when they are even more mature, they can be processed into mustard cucumbers or stewed (wok, vegetable stir-fry, side vegetables for letcho, etc.). It should be noted, however, that the peel must be removed as soon as it has taken on a dark color. Before that, it can be eaten. Matured net cucumbers can be stored in a cool place (cellar) for several weeks. Fruit size 15-30 cm long, very good storage.

Non hybrid

Growing tips

As with other cucumbers, sowing takes place around May 10 in the form of direct sowing in the open ground or pre-cultivation in pots. However, the plants sown directly onto the bed will later grow much more robustly than the seedlings in pots. Cultivation in a greenhouse is possible. The soil requirements are lower than for conventional cucumber varieties. Lime must not be added. Can be grown as ground cover or climbing plants. Harvesting the young fruits promotes fruit set and thus the yield.
