Caraway is a biennial, relatively drought-resistant spice and medicinal herb from the umbellifer family. In the first year the rosette of leaves is formed, in the second year stems and flowers. The flowering period is between May and July. Essential oils provide the characteristic scent of caraway.

Caraway can be sown directly in the bed or grown in plant pots. The germination temperature is between 5 and 15°C. Caraway is a light germinator. Therefore, you should only press the seeds lightly and not cover them with soil. You can harvest the umbels when they have turned brown. The seeds should then be dried.
