Semi-Cos type with excellent flavor. An excellent winter-hardy semi-cos type with large, well-wrapped heads. Overwintering outdoors or under foil for an early spring harvest.
Non hybrid
Frostproof
Earlier sowings can be made directly where they are to grow, in shallow drills: thin out the seedlings to 30 cm apart and protect them with a cloche as soon as colder conditions set in. Later sowings from the fall are best in a cold frame or greenhouse: once established, thin out to 30 cm apart. Protect from snails. When thinning out the lettuce seedlings, carefully lift out the larger thinnings and replant them in a new row at the final spacing to double the harvest.
