Beschreibung

The turnip (Brassica rapa subsp. rapa var. majalis) is an ancient vegetable species with edible root. It is a special form of the edible turnip.

Herkunft:

Unidentified; Possibly from eastern Afghanistan, western Pakistan, or the Mediterranean.

Anbautipps

They can be sown in March or in July and August for the late harvest. Plenty of light and good air circulation support the plant's growth. Keep the turnips weed-free and water them regularly during the growing season. The turnips can be harvested 6-8 weeks after sowing; the turnips should have a maximum diameter of 10 cm. The smaller they are, the more delicate their taste. You can eat both the turnip and its leaves. Simply twist the largest tubers out of the soil, which you may have loosened slightly with a spade beforehand. Simply leave the smaller tubers to continue growing.
